Yet people happily go there and spend money in droves, because as much as they dislike a large company bullying other companies (and in this case, the competition) and as much as they dislike supporting sweatshops or a bad employer, they dislike wasting their meager paycheck on markups even more.
It's the same Starbucks mentality that fills the world with hypocrisy.
I think you're giving people too much credit - I'll bet most don't know about Wal-Mart's shadyness, don't care and wouldn't care if they DID know.
It might not be David v.s. Goliath but all the suits at Wal-Mart certainly are a bunch of Philistines.

A touch screen desktop would be too gimmicky for Apple.
What I can see happening is using the iPad with a Remote App for controlling Apple TV. An evolution of the current Remote App for iPhone/Touch that lets you control the iTunes library on your desktop.
The iPad remote would offer screen mirroring, so you can see what content is currently playing on your TV while moving freely across your house.
It could also offer supplemental content; even video and background info, that you could see displayed on your iPad while the actual media content plays on the Apple TV. This way, the iPad could act as a little support screen that cues in background info at the right moments, e.g. in a movie, without disrupting the actual movie experience or cluttering up the screen (as additional content on DVDs does).
That would be pretty cool : )
As for the iMac, the next step would be trickling down quad-core processors to the 21" models and pleasepleaseplease offering a non-glossy screen.

Oh and to everyone looking at the pics of the iPhone and saying "God I hope Apple doesn't do this"... if they do, don't go complain about it on the forums because 5 years from now when they own 70% of the market, someone will post that thread and laugh at you. :)

Yes, I know that they are two different categories, but the MBPs would definitely steal a lot of the iPad's thunder.I doubt a new MBP announcement will hurt the iPad in any way. I think only an inconsequential percentage of Apple's iPad customer base would change plans for an iPad and choose a MBP instead.

;) I agree that it's crazy to pay full price. Everyone has to know someone in college or who can at least get an educational discount. I mean of several hundred bucks, make a friend. Otherwise, yes, simply 5-10 minutes on the net can yield you the full CS Suite and all the major plug ins. I think the total available in that time is about $3,500.
$3,500?
No.
Make that close to $1,500. Don't exaggerate. Premium packages cost a bit more but Standards are a bit cheaper. You always have the option of buying just ONE Adobe application if you don't need the rest of the stuff. Or buy them one at a time. Or buy Standard for Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign (for the print/publishing industry), for instance.

How is Halo a Quake rip off? The games are nothing alike besides the fact that they are both first person shooters. And as long as we are talking about the Original Quake, it was more like a mid evil DOOM (I love Quake 1 btw)
Halo brought something new to the FPS genre when it came out and there have been plenty of "Halo ripoffs". The only thing Halo is guilty of is being a FPS.
It looks good and it looks like they brought back picking up health packs like Halo 1. I just wish the rest of the Halo games would come to Macintosh like the first one did.
I know I'm dreaming here but the only thing I like about Xbox 360 is the controllers and Halo and Perfect Dark. Only reason I had a Xbox 360. Its broken right now so I probably wont get this game.
By the way, am I the only person here who thinks Halo Combat Evolved was the best? Halo 3 comes in very close for me.

Time for the headaches.
I feel sorry for you. :( No one I know suffered from headaches from watching 3D movies.
Having said that, I feel hesitant about this... I haven't been impressed especially by the sharpness that fake 3D can offer. Impression of depth is good enough for me, but the sharpness really sucks. 3D so far completely counters everything that we have worked for to get to HD movies in one blow. It's funny how modern 3D TV's have got to 1080p and all, and then backpedals from all that with blurry 3D movies.

This would be nice. I'd like to be able to tell my phone to read an email or text to me when I receive one while driving. However, I get into arguments all the time with the Siri app. We weren't on speaking terms for about a month after the last fiasco, (she kept telling me she couldn't help me because she didn't know my home address even though I wasn't at home and I couldn't see how knowing that would help me find a Taco Bell), but we recently made amends and the relationship, although tenuous, is improving.

I agree with you that a 2 lb. laptop isn't possible with an optical drive, but a 3 lb. laptop is still possible:
(see the Fujitsu LifeBook)
http://www.pcconnection.com/ProductDetail?sku=6170351&srccode=cii_5784816&cpncode=10-28291577-2
I really think this is a possibility. And it would play to one of Apple's core strengths of late, which is making the most compact product in their category. Think of the entire iPod line, the Mac mini, The MacBook Pros (thinnest laptops at their size, or at least the 17" is).
I really think this will happen within the next year. Maybe Summer 2007 after Santa Rosa comes out. It would be a great back-to-school product...
You have to consider the problems that Apple has had with heat and portables of late. There would likely be heat issues with such a portable, which makes it even more plausible that Apple won't make such a portable.

Well this is good news for me.
The website works to some extent for me. I have two batteries and it says one qualifies and the other does not, even though i have checked it several time to make sure and i am positive that my battery serial number falls in the range.
Oh well, will just have to phone the line when it comes back up.

Despite all the talk about paper having "superior resolution" to displays, the human eye can't really tell the difference in the size of the dots making up the print past a certain point.
The main reason displays cause eyestrain when trying to read something like a book is the fact that they're backlit. Basically, it's akin to staring into a small flashlight. The much talked-about "e-ink" or "e-paper" is interesting because it would simply work with reflected light from existing sources - just like reading real paper.
If the other "video ipod" rumors are true, Apple is looking at using the new "OLED" display technology for the next iPod. That's not going to be quite as "paper-like" as the "e-ink/e-paper" technologies, but should provide better contrast (and resolution) than LCD technology. So that means it will be better than most devices at reducing eyestrain while reading, but not as easy on the eyes as a real paper book either.
Yes. Yes it would.
Until display resolution matches paper resolution, the e-book will remain relatively unpopular.
This does seem to make a serious run at the "iPod for Education" crowd, though -- fighting to keep brand loyalty with the kids, I spose ...

Here's mine for the day, used Flare for Mac ti add the filters. It's a pretty cool app that saves me a lot of Photoshop work haha, I don't add filters very often in the first place. This was taken at the Docks in DC for my last shoot of the quarter for my Specialization Preparation class. Hope ya like it!

Quick question guys, I've been using a pc for many years and I've decided to get a MBP for college. I'll be doing some heavy photo and video editing, gaming and movie watching. I was looking at the 2.66 ghz 15" MBP, is that a good way to go, or do you think I need more power?
I have plenty of time to wait for the new refresh, I won't really need it until July. Any suggestions?
