This appeared in todays Business Standard Newspaper in India. Atleast, the issue came up for discussion.

The United States today indicated that it was willing to consider setting up of a joint technical working group to address the issues coming in the way of finalising a totalisation agreement with India.
New Delhi, on its part, has made it clear that it is not agreeable to the US stance of linking the requirement for a social security net as a precursor to finalising the agreement. India also made clear that it was adopting a calibrated approach to further opening up of the retail and financial services sector.
Indians working in the US have to mandatorily contribute to social security benefits but are unable to repatriate the same when they leave the US, in the absence of a totalisation agreement between the two countries.
The issue was discussed at a meeting of US Under Secretary for International Trade Franklin Lavin and Commerce Secretary G K Pillai in the capital. Commerce ministry officials said the Indian side pointed out that New Delhi had signed totalisation agreements with countries like Belgium and France, which had not set any pre-conditions.
�It was pointed out that India, which is a developing country, effectively gives a grant of $500 million to the US in the absence of a totalisation agreement. The US has indicated that it will soon have a video conferencing on the matter with senior Indian officials,� an official said.
In response to the US demand for further opening up of the financial services sector, the commerce ministry pointed out that India was adopting a calibrated approach on the matter.
�It was pointed out that the Reserve Bank of India has finalised a road map for the gradual opening up of the sector by 2008,� an official said, adding that New Delhi raised the issue of absence of a level-playing field for financial institutions in the US.
�A foreign bank wanting to open more branches in India only needs to obtain the permission of the Reserve bank of India. However, an Indian bank wanting to open up branches in the US has to go through the American federal system and then a state regulatory system,� an official said.
Banks like State Bank of India and ICICI have long pending applications for opening more branches in the US.
India also raised the issue of extending protection to its traditional knowledge under the patent regime in the US.

Will post about duration as soon as I get the cards in hand.
I Efiled mine on may 19th, FP on jul 3rd, no update yet.
Efiled my wife's EAD on may 30th, FP on jun 24th, Card prod ordered July 23rd.
We are currently working on EADs which expire on 30th Aug.
Am worried if I will have the card by then or not.
If i dont have the approval by aug 19th, I am planning to take Infopass for the interim EAD.

I may have lost it there for a bit, I agree. Obviously you are obsessed with me to the point of ignoring my main points and attacking me for the minor ones. If you read the thread, iskantem and I continued our conversation after that.
My points again :
1. The diversity argument is flawed when it comes to skilled immigration, especially when we have most of the grad schools here filled with Indian/Chinese students. This is what I was explaining to "iskantem" and why especially when you are talking about less than 0.05% of the population it doesn't make sense.
2. We don't even allow anyone over here to have an alternate opinion on an issue. In terms of IV activity, it is almost 100% Indian. However 60% of the EB3 backlog is not from India! Now why don't we see these 70000+ ROW guys participating here I wonder! Let me tell you why. Its because a lot of us actively discourage them from participating whenever they have an opinion contrary to ours (read India). Now I maybe guilty of losing it a little there, but I still made an effort to reach out and explain the flaw in the diversity issue he was mentioning rather than mount an all out attack/ignore him right away/stick my head in the ground.
Well, of course since you are so obsessed with me and also with getting reds (if you notice I didn't give you any) you may have missed them. Happy that you got me? And happy you didn't get reds? Good, enjoy your day. Please let's get back to the issues now. Peace.

Agreed that your arguments have weight, but they should be made to the right person at the right time. So let's wait for the next letter-writing event and we can participate in writing the draft..

In my earlier post, I dint mean to say that all Kinkos are bad, its just the particular one near me was not good enough. The photos were as if they were taken with a yellow filter on their lenses.
Sears did a very good job instead.
You can just tell them that you need photos for passport. They are the same requirements
Think it this way, your photo might be scanned by their machine to be printed on visa/notice. If the photo is not of good quality it might get pixelated after they scan.
So be your own judge, think if you were in USCIS shoes and had to scan a photo and produce it on visa/stamp. They might also use some image recognition softwares for which they require exact speicifications.
In my case the yellow tinge I got from kinkos exactly matches with the improper color on the website below. So i had to go for other option

A freind of mine came across a gentleman, who is here on work visa and he is facing a unique problem. He is married to two persons and wants to bring his whole family here in the USA. By law Employer is required to pay for your labor. You cannot pay for your labor application. Employer can ask you to pay for your I140 which cost around 400 but if you go for premium processing you can pay 1000 extra. There is no other cost involved. To port your date your lawyer sends a letter to USCIS requesting them to consider your EB2 I140 instead of your Eb3 140 which results in your successfuly porting with your priority date still being maintained from old labor
I am in May 2003 EB3I boat. My employer is now trying to file my case in EB2. I have a master degree and 5 yrs experience prior to my EB3 filing in May 2003. The questions is regarding what to file and cost.
Do we need to file 1. PERM 2. I140 3. I485 all over again ? If so here are the fee for each step 1. 2750 2. 475 (1250) 3. 1010 each(2000 for applicant and spouse. The ones in () are legal fees. Is this sound reasonable ?

Guys,
Firstly thanks for the great show at DC, we are really beginning to bring this issue to the fore front. I could not attend myself but I did make a small contribution as a token of my support. However we should capitalize on the momentum and follow this up with some thing more substantial so that every one knows that this was not a one off spark but is a clear growing fire.
I guess (just by reading posts on IV) one point which came out pretty clearly was that IV has good support in some regions and really very little support in some others (support as in visible support, where people are willing to show up for rallies, contribute to IV�s efforts etc), I guess this pretty much means that we need to focus on building the regional chapters of IV, like have strong/formal leadership and goals of each of the chapters.
I was also thinking that we can possibly learn a lot from the protests by undocumented immigrants. They had record turnouts in their rallies and most of their people stayed away from work to take part in the efforts when ever there was a call for the same.
I thought which keeps hitting me is about a simultaneous rally in all major US cities? I know that undocumented immigrants did this and that really worked for them and once again this will build our regional chapters coz the onus will clearly be on each of the regional chapters to achieve targets (target in terms of membership, turnout in rallies, fund raisings etc ) set by IV
Some of the advantages of having simultaneous local rallies is that
1) No travel expenses � (So that we can spend more money on media and lobbying than travel expenses)
2) No need to time spent on travel � ( Better turnouts)
3) Comfort � every one can just go to a local rally point (Better turnouts)
4) Stronger regional chapters � (work at grass root levels)
Also if this can be done on a Saturday then I am sure the turn out will be much better.

Person, if in USA, has 30 days to start working for H1 employer after CoS approval date. One more thing, one can start working after applying for SSN without waiting for getting actual SSN.

Mr. Murthy didn't bring out the message correctly. If you read clearly his message is directed towards state govts which dont provide infrastructure and mandatory English as education. So, I think he meant that as long as state govts act upon giving good infrastructure and mandatory English, young talent will remain in India.
But r the bloody politicians listening?
The man is worth $1.6 billion and need not resort to such cheap gimmicks and hez no longer the chief of Infosys. And the guy who cant interpret a simple message and calling it a gimmick whoz he? I applied for I-140, I-485, AP and EAD on 8/15/07. I got my EAD and the case status online got updated accordingly. But, for my other three applications I get the following errors:

I got receipt notices for all 4 applications on 10/16/07 and have double-checked my receipt notices for case # for typos.

I know after we file the i-485 for 180 days, we can change our jobs. But rule is that the new job should be in the same field as the old one.
Can i change my job from a biological researcher to a biostatistician? My current job is in the field of biology, which involves lots of experiments. If I change my job to a biostatistician, which is like a programmer, do i still qualify the "similar filed" rule? thanks for your help!
