I wonder if this is a specific to X86 hardware... Does this effect ppc based hardware?
These options have always been there, but I'm not sure they're sufficient to divert this type of exploit (assuming it exists/works, since people are arguing fervently that it's a hoax). The way I understand it, a WiFi device looking to join a network is doing active sensing even when it will only join preferred networks -- this pretty much must be true, since it can join a preferred hidden network, which is not itself broadcasting its availability. So the problem comes when a malevolent entity responds to the ping that the WiFi card puts out. I'm not sure just telling your computer to not join open networks would make any difference at that level. For instance, in analogy, with the BT exploit, one was not required to pair with the device propagating the virus -- just be discoverable.

I'm a bit on the bubble on this. It's cool that you can get the OS that you really need, but on the other side, this **** is going to confuse the hell out of non tech savvy people.
Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_i_16/002-8029411-1096001?ie=UTF8&keywords=Vista&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3AVista%2Ci%3Asoftware&page=1) has Vista available for Preorder at the above-mentioned prices
They do updates, they are just free. No need for a full release for small add ons.
Wow, not getting updates to your OS for half a decade is now an advantage is it?
And Windows users accuse Mac owners of being delusional!

Some of you are predicting big Beatles sales if they go online. Others claim that the market is gone for those tunes. I'm happy to wait and see who's right, but I wish they'd finally get started so we can find out, rather than see "Beatles on iTunes" continue to be yet another Apple rumor that persists for years.

I am mostly complaining between the mismatch between the 1.83 and the 2.0 model in terms of what 200$ buy (512MB RAM, Double Processor Cache, HD space, Superdrive, Processor Speed).
They should have lowered the price of the 1.83 entry model to reflect how cripled it is. I can not see anybody considering it as a realistic choice.
ok, i'll buy that, sorry i snapped. i had always been planning on the 2gig model, because it seemed like so much more for the money in even the first release. true, now that's even more the case, and indeed, what i'm buying

FYI...anyone that is considering getting the in-store BT/AP module...
The tech on the phone told me that the G5 Powermac module will NOT work in the Mac Pro case...as the internals have been redesigned (power supply at the top, not bottom, new motherboard, etc.)
Also, seems the SATA interface is the newer "II" standard with twice the throughput, but it IS backwards compatible with SATA-I drives :DCheck the developer's notes. The Airport module runs on a x1 PCi Express slot and Bluetooth via internal USB 2.0.

They also wanted to push their own solutions (quicktime) and so maybe they haven't tried particularly hard to make Flash work. It hasn't been a top priority. It obviously is a bit of a problem now and they need to do something about it.
Why does Apple have to do something about it? Haven't they given Adobe all the info (specs, requirements and restrictions) that they need to make a flash player for the iPhone? If Adobe can't do it within those parameters, then it's on them.

Man, Apple keeps getting lower and lower. First Walmart, now this?
The closest apple store to my town (population 48k) is over a hour away - we have two radio shacks. How is this low? an elitist much? This is great! - Ipad 2's are the same price everywhere, except AAFES where its $10 cheaper and tax free. - Now many people can save their hard earned money as gas approaches $4 a gallon under this administration. Besides some people have radio shack credit cards -and earn rewards. They may prefer to buy from there.

If Apple had done this way back in the day, made their products readily available in stores, maybe they would have won the PC wars. I certainly remember the days when you could only get an Apple product via mail order, and you could never play with them in a store. Anytime you can get max products into max hands, its a good thing.

I played for about 90 minutes last night. I am impressed with the graphics but focused on the story (solo/coop), seems like more of the same. I mean it's good but as with most sequels and for me especially after the 5th time around, it's feeling a bit repetitive. Maybe as I get farther into it I'll get more excited. :)
Well, let's be real here. It is a shooter. The game is going to mainly entail traversing levels, and shooting the enemies in the way. By nature, it is going to be repetitive. I guess I didn't feel that though, given the variety in the way you go about this; On foot, in a Warthog, in a Falcon, with a Jet Pack, in a Space Ship, with a team, by yourself. I quite liked all the various levels, and the ways the game made available to finish them.
I would assume that once you got through the blatant copy&paste areas used to make the original Halo SP longer you would have realized that was par for the course ;)
Which parts of Reach fit this description?? I can only think of 1 area that was reused, and it was a part of the game you just move through pretty quickly. On top of that, the two times you visit the area are separated in time, both story-wise and mission number (3 & 9), so they have a VERY different feel each time you go through. But hey, if you have other areas, I'm all ears.

I'm with Snowcat001 on this one...My daughter has an HP touchscreen and although its kinda cool...after about ten minutes it gets kinda tiring and manipulating the icons..albeit its a WIN 7 box...is frustratingly tough. Now Apples product is in no way comparable to HP (until HP comes out with a WebOS touchpad! ) still think its a long way from disappearing mouse for the desktop. I'm just saying..

Unless you are THERE, YOU CANNOT SEE THE KEYNOTE LIVE. IT WILL BE PUT ON APPLE'S WEBSITE 2 HOURS AFTER THE KEYNOTE ENDS.
MACRUMORS WILL UPDATE US AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AS TO WHAT IS HAPPENING AT WWDC..
THERE WILL PROBABLY BE A FEW LEAKS BEFORE THE KEYNOTE BEGINS...
I'M CLARIFYING THIS FOR THE 100'S OF PEOPLE THAT KEEP ASKING THE SAME QUESTION!
Yeah, but will it be possible to see it streamed live ???? ;) (kidding) :D

400 smackers for Ultimate?
My wallet hurts.
On another note, upgrading from XP to Vista is nice and smooth.

but that doesn't mean that OS X is anywhere near impenetrable
I don't think that anyone who has A Clue™ doesn't know this already.
The ilk of people who think it's immune are the same ilk of people that don't understand why their WindowsPC is running so "slowly".
I just resent being called smug.
I also resent blackhatters who are new to the OS X game getting all rightous. Where were they the last 5 years?
They're part of the REASON "mac users are so smug about security".

No, but enough sites do make use of it that Apple really should allow the CONSUMER to make the decision to enable or disable it. I know the Apple fanboys will disagree, but I wouldn't expect anything less from those guys.
Thank you.
Thank you.

the app store with more than 70,000 apps out there, doesn't give a rat ass about a developer leaving the App store. wrong, but they still don't care.
besides, what are you talking about?
thats one of the best apps!

Has anyone considered that apple might not be realeasing the wide screen super secret video ipod because it dosn't exist?
lets all think for a second...
1) touch screens are weak, soft, and matte, not iPod at all
2) they get printy and scratched very easily
3) they would go through oodles of batter power
4) Apple would not make the thing bigger just to hold the extra battery
5) battery life would STINK
6) touch screen starts to complicate the interface, goes against apple's easy as pie rule
7) the thing would have to cost a fortune
please dont kill me, but does anyone have proof, or is it just a dream of perfection?
p.s. does anyone know if they will webcast the event?

Anyone knows how the GeForce 7600 GT compares to the Radeon X1X00 series?
Similar to the X1800 GT?
Must be better/faster than the X1600....

Putting aside the fact that Flash is crap ...
Yes, flash has issues, but there are several sites that I want to use from the iPhone that require it. It would be good for the iPhone to support it.
Also, there are several enterprise development shops rolling out custom enterprise applications for mobile phones. They don't want to write custom applications for the iPhone, so using Flash/Flex would definitely be attractive.

It's not like they are just going to stop selling DVD's from certain studios. People who want to buy a DVD that Walmart doesn't stock will just go to Best Buy or buy them from Amazon.
I don't see how Walmart has much bargining power here without shooting themselves in the foot.
