To compete with the Nintendo 3DS.

There are more direct competitors than that. For example - Acer Iconia Tab 100 (Android tablet)

To all those cutting military by huge percentages, what are your plans to deal with the millions of unemployed that would produce?

To those opposed to doing drastic cuts.....what do you plan to do to deal with the hundreds of millions affected if the country goes bankrupt?

As for our military.....we are so massively superior to any other nation, it's not like we are going to be at risk even if we do massive cutbacks in military spending.

They make all of Nikons sensors, even the high end D3S and D3X dSLRs ones. They also made (or make?) Canon point and shoot sensors; at least as of a few years ago. Sony was one of the first with backlit CMOS as well.

Oh, and I think Pentax, if you want to consider them a camera compay, uses Sony sensors.

    Pentax use Samsung sensors.

So, in this situation, would the Military Complex be called an entitlement program, as much of it exists solely to keep people from starving or going homeless? Because that's what it sounds like to me when you talk about it like this.

Yeah, I would say it is a huge entitlement program, but its impact crosses socio-economic lines. Wealthy people are subsidized by Pentagon profligacy just as much as the lower classes. Bear in mind, also, that service represents a route out of poverty for some people. But, really, with a wide-angle lens, many government programs affect more than just their central focus. Education, for example.

My personal opinion is that our socio-economic system is already so horribly feudal, broken and unstable that any reasonable, measured action we take to fix it amounts to duct tape on the reactor core.

I really don't get all of those who constantly are saying things like "Don't care for them, they were before my time . . . " or "They're so old, they're not relevant . . .", etc. Really? I just don't get it. Monet, Davinci, Bach, Cole Porter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Charlie Parker were all before my time, yet I appreciate them. Having an artist being born before your time shouldn't have anything to do with "appreciating" them. That's the whole point - art is timeless. I' guess it has to do with how you grew up and what you were exposed to that makes a difference.

All kinds of music was being played in my house when I grew up. My dad played primarily four kinds of music in our house: classical, tango, opera and jazz and I got exposed to all of them - everyday. But all kinds of music would be played, not just these four kinds. While the Beatles were not one of the groups constantly being played on my dad's Hi-Fi, my parents did appreciate them and would play them on the radio once in a while, just to expose us kids to them. This, I believe, is one reason I listen to ALL kinds of music today. Not only do I listen to the classics, but also to many current and obscure artists of today. And I am doing the same with my son. He is exposed to all facets of music and art and has a great appreciation of all kinds of music. And you know who's his favorite? Louis Prima. My son's 6 years old and he couldn't care one bit when Louis was born. Not one bit. My dad would be proud.

"Something in the Air"? My first thought is wireless.

    This could refer to:

    - iPhone updates (just firmware, perhaps an early SDK release, or more flash memory)

    - Ultraportable laptop

    - A more advanced download service (Rentals?).

Ever owned a 12" powerbook? I have two.

There's a reason a lot of 12" powerbook owners rave on about them. The form factor is very neat. It sure isn't about how powerful they are :).
Too right. My Rev. A will have to be completely dead before I replace it with a 13" MacBook. The only way I'll buy another laptop before then is if Apple come out with a 12" MBP.

Not slagging off the MacBooks by saying that. I just love my PB12". Best laptop ever IMO.

    1) Using USB Wlan card.
    2) Connects the Mac to the Dell using similar card (can you say self written drivers?) using already set up IPs and settings.
    3) Attacks the Mac (how do we know he just doesn't have Windows sharing on and log into existing account on the Mac?).
    4) Had they used two Dells', who'd go see their video? Using Macbook gave them maximum exposure and hits.

    Cheap publicity stunt!

One thing I really hate about this Zune thing is the amount of free publicity Microsoft has gotten.

For months on end we've been bombarded with Zune-friendly "news" articles calling it an "iPod killer". Even before Microsoft had a name for it, before they had any sort of design for it, while it was still vaporware, the media kept hammering home, "iPod killer" while seeming to drool over the prospect.

There's STILL no actual product on the store shelves.

    It's disgusting, really.

What I want to know is how gun crime correlates to poverty regardless of race.

    In the United States:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lifetime_prevalence_of_incarceration.png

Hispanics are the poorest demographic in the United States, black people are the second worst off.

Further the majority of violent crimes committed by Hispanics in the united states are committed by illegals (not necessarily illegal immigrants). This allows for a-lot of the cartel based violence currently going on in Mexico (thanks to America's ridiculous drug laws) to cross the border.

While inter cartel violence is hardly a mitigating factor it does suggest that much of the violence has little relation to the communities themselves but is instead being imported.

What bother's me about this issue is that I think a-lot can be done by working with community leaders to curb these tragic issues. But before we can start confronting the issues we need to have an open conversation about them.

Wait a second. They use a 3rd party wireless card, and he said in the end that "the flaw is not in the Apple operating system as we used 3rd party hardware". I'd say that's quite different from the impression I got from reading the macrumors headline here. A default MacBook using the built in Airport isn't vulnerable as far as I can tell.

He also said that the exploit isn't as trivial as a generic buffer overflow. Now, to exploit a generic buffer overflow, you need to have a certain level of l337ness to begin with, so that means you don't have to worry about your neighbour braking into your wireless network, just yet. Unless someone releases premade tools to do the exploitation, I'd say that normal people and small businesses don't have to worry at the moment.
Can't get the video to play right now, but the text sounds like Atheros writes the drivers for the built in Airport.

Sounds like a protocol bug to me if it works on different platforms and different vendors.

I don't know the answer to question one, but the answer to the second question is yes. On top of that, the rate of conviction of blacks is higher.

It was ONE question, not a first and a second one. Whatever somebody answers to only the second half of it, is totally meaningless as long as the answer to the first half is not "yes".

With this 3D facetracking display being rumored, the first thing I thought of was the future of iPad gaming.
Imagine playing a game, where instead of moving the right analog to change the camera angle, you just move your head to look around the corner.
(come on everybodys tried it with there tv at least once :P)

But then I came upon the fact that the placing of the cam on the ipad would pretty much prevent landscape mode since your thumb would be in the way.
Then of course, theres the new smart cover or any docking system, you could prop it up in landscape mode and use some sort of bluetooth controller or maybe an iPhone as a controller to your iPad.

    I would be so impressed.

Reception to the original iPod launch was mixed. Our own forum responses (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=500) are interesting to look back on, 10 years later.

Well, sure, but that was ten years ago. We're much more sophisticated now. :D
