So my estimate is there are around
50 to 60k consulting companies in whole USA.
Thanks,
Kris
I don't think consulting firms are alone to be blamed.
Lets say there are around 1000 consulting firms it the worst case there may be around 1500 firms which have a capacity to apply 15 H1B each.
still the number would come around 15000 to 30000 but the big 4 companies in India got 20,000 H1B last year, which means they might have applied around 45000 to 55,000 applications
my numbers may be bit off but i think Big 4 companies from India are doing more damage then consulting firms in US.

Probaby you didn't see the whole list...
From Your Petitioner:
• A copy of the petition with all supporting documents as filed to USCIS.
• A copy of the employment contract or letter of agreement signed by you and the petitioner.
• Petitioner’s Income Tax Return for the last two tax years and financial statements.
• A notarized list of all the petitioner’s employees of the job site listed. The list should show all employees’ names, their specific job titles, start and end dates, and their individual salaries and immigration status.
• State Unemployment Wage Reports, showing all wages paid to each employee in the state, for the past three quarters. (This should be the actual forms filed to the State authorities listing each employee and wages paid during the quarter.)
• A letter from the client company sponsoring the project and a copy of the contract between the U.S.-based petitioner and the client company, stating the timing, terms and agreement for your project.
• A copy of the contract between the U.S. employment agency (petitioner) and the job site (the location where you will actually work).
• A letter (on letterhead) from the personnel department at the U.S. job site stating that there is a vacancy for you.
• A detailed and specific description of the internal development project to which you will be assigned. Include a complete technical description of the project, employer, timeline, current status, number of employees assigned, worksite location, and marketing analysis for the final product.
If this was a genuine/valid employement shouldn't the peitioner/employer really have all of the above documents with them ?

It was for about 2 minutes. The first time this issue got TV coverage I guess.
Anyone captured it on video?
CNN had a 30 second clip on it on "American Morning" on July 3rd.

Immigration Application Fees to Rise By 80 Percent (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/30/AR2007013001864.html).
The Bush administration will announce an increase today in immigration application fees of more than 80 percent, federal officials said yesterday.
The cost of applying for naturalization, for example, would rise from $330 to $595, and a required fingerprint check would go from $70 to $80.
The increases, which have been under consideration for months, would raise nearly $1 billion for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The troubled $2 billion-a-year agency has antiquated paper systems that have fed years-long delays for applicants and fears that terrorists might slip through the cracks.
Union, civil rights and immigrant advocacy groups called the changes discriminatory, warning that they will keep lower-income and less-educated people from becoming citizens.
"What they're saying is, people trying to become Americans are not a priority," said Cecilia Muoz, vice president of the National Council of La Raza, the Hispanic civil rights group.
Critics also said the changes would create an incentive for the agency to drag out processing, thereby extracting more fees, or to expedite cases for people who can afford premium services.
USCIS faces budget problems because of an increase in applications and because Congress funds it not with tax money but with user fees, which trail operational demands.
The money will allow USCIS to recoup its business costs, "provide future services, enhance national security and to modernize . . . a totally outdated business infrastructure," said an agency official who spoke on the condition of anonymity so as not to upstage the announcement.
Officials said the increases will not address costs that would result from an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, which the White House has proposed.
Fee increases will take effect no sooner than 120 days after they are published in the Federal Register tomorrow, including a 60-day public comment period.

Hopeful has a valid point when it comes to sending flowers to USCIS. I am not sure that will make any difference . Flowers will not change USCIS overnight but will get us some good media publicity .Yes when it comes to american or any other politics , money is an important factor and if you can hit money, all issues can be resolved. I wish India one day becomes such a prosperous country that immigration no longer is lucrative for Indians and none of our generations to come have to go through all this mess !!!!!!:D

Focus should be on creating jobs. For that US needs to allow skilled legal immigrants to stay.
Agreed, not all legal immigrants will become enterpreneurs and create jobs but I still think that contribution from skilled workers is more to the economy and has a much larger impact than that of illegal migrants!

Hi,
Sent letters to WH and IV. Besides, I printed 100 copies of the original template and kept them in an Indian grocery store, with the permission from the store owner, although it took a long time to explain our situation to the owner of the shop.
Regards,
IK
You get a green dot:)
We will soon be launching a similar campaign in NorCal.
THANK YOU!

Optimystic,
Are you working for same company since 2001 or you invoke AC21, Can you please share us the detail of RFE (if you can).
thnx
I don't know if my NC is cleared. Tried to find it couple of times calling over phone but always ran into unfriendly IO officers.
Got out of BEC in dec 2006, I140 cleared in Jan 2007 but then my PD became current only in June 2007. And due to laziness of my law firm, my I-485 filing did not happen in June and got dragged into July 07 mess.
I think if USCIS had initiated my Namecheck as per normal timeline (sometime around when my I-485 filed , i.e anywhere between July - Sep 2007), then yes, I think it crossed 180 days long time back.

This is the same argument used by anti-immigrants.
I am a nurse so we better flood the job market; don't you think so?
Now how does that makes me an anti-immigrant    . I am ofcourse happy that so many of my friends here are going one step further in getting GC. Something is better than nothing. But, suddenly more than 1/2 mill people getting EAD will have some effect on the market. People(on H1B) loosing jobs after 3-4 months may find themselves in a difficult situation to get a job.
I am on H1B myself, how can I ever be an anti-immigrant ?:) :) I was expecting a little bit more permamnent solution and not a band-aid solution as somebody pointed out.

We can demand a purple card for any techworker who had worked and paid taxes and contributed to Social Security and medicare for three continuous years. This card should allow free travel and work permit for spouse. Counterpart of blue card for illegals......Once the priority date becomes current and adjustment of status is complete, purple card is replaced by green card !!!!!!!!

Without GC, they were working for the same client with even more pay and life was good if not better.
.
i don't think settling for a lesser salary after getting GC is a wise thing to do & i hope you as well as most of the people here would not like to do that unless a person has outdated skills & does not want to upgrade or wants to accept whatever he gets without any efforts.
